Artist roger Jones Has Created Paintings in Response to music and Sounds in the natural Environment
About the Artist
Roger Jones is a Birmingham-based artist and musician born in Tuscaloosa and raised in Selma, Alabama. Over the past twelve years, Jones' drawing and paintings have addressed a variety of topics, including architecture, nature, religion, and music. His most recent paintings utilize pattern and repetition among colors and shapes to create visual parallels to his experiences listening to and playing music.
Jones obtained his BA from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in 2007 and graduated from The University of Alabama with an MFA in painting in 2012. His work was been exhibited in group shows across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Jones has served as an art educator at The Montgomery Museum of Art, The Birmingham Museum of Art, and The University of Alabama as well as being a founding member of PaperWorkers Local. Jones' interests outside of visual art include playing drums in bands around Birmingham, playing golf, and running. He and is wife Sarah have one son, Catesby.
